Each year HSC DiscoveryCon has an array of special events to enjoy!  Here's the 2018 lineup - events are subject to change.


Family Kendama Jam  12-2pm - The Fairgrounds (Topaz)
Learn some new tricks!  Learn how to incorporate Kendama into family bonding time!  Games, prizes, yay!

Artists' Alley!  5pm-10pm - Crystal Sands Foyer  
Are you an artist?  Crafty creator?  Nerdy maker?  Grab a table (first come, first served) and display your wares for sale on Friday night.  Artists are in charge of their own sales and keep 100% of their profits.

Party Games!  6pm-11pm - The Flatlands (White Diamond)  
Welcome to HSC DiscoveryCon!  Letís get the party started with some BIG PARTY GAMES!    Join friends old and new for rounds of Ultimate Werewolf, Apples to Apples, Double Bananagrams, Improv games, giant Twister, and even more icebreaking, party-starting fun!

inSHREKted (Shrek Glow Tag!)  6:30-8:30pm - The Fairgrounds (Topaz)
Come play inSHREKted!  Heís a mean, green, tagginí machine.  When Shrek tags you, itís all OGRE.

LEGO Challenges and Contraptions - Makersville    10am-2pm    Other Realms (Emerald)
LEGO Build Challenge 10-11:30am - 3 teams of 4 persons will work with a box of 2x4 bricks to build items inspired by words or photographs selected from a card deck.
LEGO Play and Contraptions 11:30am-12:30pm - Inspired by a Rube Goldberg contest.
Contraptions Challenges 12:30pm-2pm - Build a contraption that can pour a bowl of cereal!

Quiddich with the LB Funky Quaffles  2pm-4pm - Pioneer Park - 2565 Underhill Avenue          

Grab your brooms! Our local Quiddich team, the Long Beach Funky Quaffles, is coming to DiscoveryCon! The FQs will teach the basics of Quiddich and coach DiscoveryCon players in a mini-game at a park adjacent to our hotel venue. To support the Funky Quaffles all the way to the 2018 Quiddich cup, click here and show them some love!

***This special event will be held at Pioneer Park, a short walk from our hotel venue.  Children MUST be accompanied by their adult parent or caregiver, no exceptions.  No chaperones are provided at the park or on the walk to the park.***

Minecraft Family Dance (7pm-9pm) and Minecraft Teen Dance (9pm-11pm) - The Lounge (Chardonnay/Burgundy)
Dance through the ages at the Minecraft Dance!  Groove to music from the 80ís, 90ís and 00ís, with some Minecraft tunes thrown in for fun!  This event is planned by our teens and is open to all registered DiscoveryCon attendees.  We'll have a live DJ, awesome music, lights, people, prizes, and fun.  Families welcome from 7-9, and from 9-11 the dance will transform into a teen zone.  Come out and dance the night away! (Costumes not required)


X-Wing Demo 10:30am-2:30pm - Other Realms (Emerald)

Come learn how to play as the Empire or Rebels in this fast-moving miniatures game in the Star Wars universe.  Hidden planning requires you to anticipate your opponent.  Luke, Han, Vader and Boba Fett will lead the charge.  All materials provided and rules taught!

Game Gen - Games Arcade 12-5pm - Other Realms (Emerald)

Come stop by the Game Gen activity Arcade. Play video games coded and designed by kids, teens, and adults on the spectrum Game Gen students. Feel free to ask advice on coding curriculum or educational games too!

Raffle  2pm - Crystal Sands Foyer
Game companies, sponsors, exhibitors, and local families have generously donated fabulous prizes to our raffle!  Please visit the raffle table at the Registration/Information Table to discover what you can win and drop your raffle tickets into the boxes.  Tickets will be sold throughout the conference at the HSC Registration/Information Table and by folks milling around the con.  ($1 each, 12 for $10 and 25 for $20.)  All proceeds go toward HSCís important work supporting and protecting homeschooling in California.  The drawing will take place on Sunday at 2 pm at the HSC Registration/Information Table. Please claim your prize by 3 pm.  You must be at the conference to win.

Clay-o-Rama  3-5pm - Other Realms (Emerald)
Come craft you own creature/robot/Jaeger/Kaiju out of Play-Doh and then battle it out in the arena.  Stats are based on the creature you create (with bonuses for younger players) and everyone gets a special attack such as Poke, Bowl, Toss and Reshape Limb.  Yes, you get to actually do that to your opponent!  Great fun for all ages!!  Ages 6 and under should have an adult to help.
